A tortoise lived in a pond with two geese, who were his friends.
One summer the pond began to dry up.
“We will carry you to a big lake,” said the geese. “Hold this stick in your mouth, and do not speak.”
The geese held the two ends of the stick and flew high over a village.
The children below shouted, “Look! A flying tortoise!”
The tortoise could not keep quiet. He opened his mouth to answer, and down he fell into a haystack.
He was lucky to be safe, and he learnt to think before he spoke.
