Coordinate geometry: the Cartesian plane · निर्देशांक ज्यामिति: कार्तीय तल
A free Maths lesson for Class 9 children.
The Cartesian plane has two number lines that cross at right angles.
The horizontal line is the x axis and the vertical line is the y axis.
They meet at the origin, whose coordinates are zero and zero.
The x coordinate of a point is called its abscissa.
The y coordinate of a point is called its ordinate.
The axes divide the plane into four quadrants, numbered anticlockwise.
In the second quadrant, x is negative and y is positive.
