Coal and petroleum · कोयला और पेट्रोलियम

Coal, petroleum and natural gas are fossil fuels. They formed from the remains of plants and animals buried millions of years ago.

Fossil fuels are exhaustible: once used up, they cannot be made again in our lifetime.

Coal is processed to give coke, coal tar and coal gas. Coke is used to make steel.

Petroleum is refined by separating its parts: petrol, diesel, kerosene, LPG, lubricating oil, paraffin wax and bitumen.

Natural gas is stored under pressure as CNG, a cleaner fuel for vehicles and homes.

We should save fuel: switch off engines at red lights, use public transport, and keep vehicles serviced.
