All living things are made of cells. Robert Hooke first saw cells in cork in 1665.
An organism of one cell is unicellular, like Amoeba and bacteria. Humans are multicellular.
The cell membrane surrounds the cell. Inside is jelly-like cytoplasm, and the nucleus, which controls the cell.
Plant cells also have a cell wall outside the membrane, chloroplasts with chlorophyll for making food, and a large vacuole.
Cells of bacteria have no well-formed nucleus: they are prokaryotes. Plant and animal cells, with a nuclear membrane, are eukaryotes.
