An electric cell has two terminals, positive and negative. A battery is two or more cells joined together.

A bulb glows only when the circuit is complete: a closed path from one terminal through the bulb and back to the other.

A switch opens and closes the gap in a circuit. When the switch is open, the bulb goes off.

Metals like copper and iron let current pass. They are conductors. Rubber, plastic and wood are insulators.

Never use mains electricity for experiments. Only use cells.
