Things around us are made of materials: wood, metal, glass, plastic, cotton and more.
Metals shine. This property is called lustre. Gold, silver and polished iron have lustre.
Materials can be hard, like iron, or soft, like cotton and sponge.
Transparent materials let us see through them. Opaque ones do not. Translucent ones let us see a little.
Some materials float on water, like wood and oil. Others sink, like stone and iron.
We group materials by their properties so that we can choose the right one for each job.
