Everything around us is matter. Matter is made of tiny particles.
Matter has three states: solid, liquid and gas.
In a solid the particles are packed tightly, so a solid keeps its shape.
In a liquid the particles are close but can slide, so a liquid flows.
A liquid takes the shape of its container.
In a gas the particles are far apart and move freely in all directions.
A gas spreads out to fill all the space it gets.
Heating can change a solid to a liquid, and a liquid to a gas.
