Green plants make their own food. This is called photosynthesis.
The leaf is the kitchen of the plant.
Leaves are green because of chlorophyll. Chlorophyll traps sunlight.
Roots take in water from the soil. The stem carries it to the leaves.
Leaves take in carbon dioxide from the air through tiny holes called stomata.
Using sunlight, the leaf turns water and carbon dioxide into food.
The plant gives out oxygen, which we breathe in.
Extra food is stored as starch in roots, stems, fruits and seeds.
