Reproduction makes new individuals of the same kind.
In asexual reproduction a single parent makes copies of itself. Amoeba splits in two by binary fission.
Yeast and hydra grow buds that break off. Spirogyra breaks into pieces by fragmentation.
Planaria can regrow a whole body from a piece. Bread mould makes spores.
Potato tubers and bryophyllum leaves grow new plants. This is vegetative propagation.
In sexual reproduction two parents each give a gamete, and the gametes join in fertilisation.
In flowers, pollen from the anther reaches the stigma. Then the ovary becomes the fruit and the ovules become seeds.
In humans, the male gamete is the sperm and the female gamete is the egg. The embryo grows in the uterus.
